CI4 is a specialised material initially developed by Shimano’s cycling division. Feather-light, stiff, and extremely strong, it is the lightest high-performance material that Shimano has produced to date. This development has enabled Shimano to bring the weight of this reel down to a mere 640g – incredibly light for a Baitrunner of this huge size. With a line capacity of 660yrds (using 10lb line) you are able to cast huge distances whilst still enjoying the weightless feel – almost as if you a using a reel of half the size.
Casting is a dream with this reel, thanks to a combination of the AR-C spool, Aerowrap II, and two speed oscillation system. AR-C allows line to fly from the angling spool lip in tight coils and Aerowrap II joins the oscillation system to maintain the speed and trajectory of the line for perfect line lay with each cast. This is widely considered to be the best distance casting setup in the industry.
X-Ship is Shiamno’s patented retrieve system, ensuring maximum power transference between the pinion gear and the main drive gear. In real terms, this means that you have to put less effort in with each turn of the handle to achieve extreme line retrieve. The Baitrunner CI4 XTR-A Longcast (Big) has an amazing gear ratio of 4.6:1, drawing in a whopping 110cm of line per handle turn.
With incredible waterproof drag within the Baitrunner system you are able to comfortably play the biggest fish at distance and right under the rod tip. This reel is a joy to fish with and is a must have for the dedicated carp angler. It is also available in a medium size.
