Running line float fishing for big fish like barbel, chub and bream in deep water isnt easy. Long rods have helped us to do this, of course but its a big problem battling with a double figure barbel on a long, soft action rod!
Shorter, stronger action 13ft and 14ft rods are much easier to play big fish on but if your float is fixed to fish the full depth in 8ft to 12ft of water, the length of the rig gives you a different problem.
Its a subject that I have been thinking about for a long time and now we have the answer to the problem in the form of the Bolo Slider!
It took a few samples to get the design right and this final production pattern is perfect. In practice sessions on deep Wye swims, Ive already had chub catches to 100lb using them! While I cant promise you a 100lb catch every time you go out, I can assure you that for deep water and good size fish, this pattern makes deep water fishing easy!

The Dave Harrell Bolo Slider Float has been designed for those difficult situations where you need to fish a float on running line for big fish like barbel, chub and bream. Although long float rods and bolo rods have helped anglers to do this, there is still the big problem of playing large specimen fish such as a double figure barbel on a long, soft action rod. Shorter, stronger action 13ft and 14ft rods are much easier to play big fish on but if your fishing float is fixed to fish the full depth in 8ft to 12ft of water, the length of the rig gives you a different problem. It’s a subject that Dave Harrell has spent a long time thinking about and has now come up with a solution to this problem in the form of the Bolo Slider! Already put to good use on some of the deep pegs on the River Wye with chub catches well over 100lb.
These new bolo floats from Dave Harrell have been designed to run up and down the line and can be set to your desired depth with the addition a sliding stop knot to the line. As these bolo floats are not fixed on the line, it allows your rig to be shorter for casting and playing fish. Once cast, this Bolo Slider float will slide up the line till it hits the stop knot which is set at your desired depth, and they you can run your rig down the peg as normal. Dave Harrell has used a hollow tip on these bolo floats so they can be used with a variety or baits from maggots to pellet and luncheon meat. The hollow tip on these bolo floats is also incredibly buoyant, so it allows you to fish over depth without submerging the float, great for catching bigger fish such as chub and barbel. Also thanks to the line running through the middle of the float body, these bolo floats are incredibly durable and also incredibly hard to tangle. Available in a range of sizes from 6g to 10g to cover most float fishing situations on rivers.
