Chinook II Charter Fishing Report – August
Fishing has been really good over the last fortnight with increasing numbers of Thornbacks and Smooth Hounds showing.
The best Smooth Hound to date was a cracking fish of 20lb which was part of a superb day's fishing with Chris and Steve from Angling Direct last week.
A lot of the Smooth Hounds being caught are over 10lb in size and fight really hard in the shallow water, testing both the angler and tackle! The best Smooth Hound fishing is probably still yet to come and the next couple of weeks should see some bumper catches! All fish are returned to the water alive, so hopefully they will return year after year.
There are a lot more Thornbacks around now with several fish over the 10 lb mark being caught. As well as these big fish, there’s also been plenty of smaller ones, which bodes well for the future. There’s also a few showing up inshore, these fish are relatively early this year as we would not normally expect to see them until September.
The Bass have been a little thin on the ground but recent reports are a little more encouraging as the fish to around 8lb have been landed. As we move into September we will start to target the bigger fish offshore on the banks before they move off for the year.
Inshore fishing has been hard but there are a few Bass and Thornbacks now showing and numbers should only increase in the next month or so.
Overall prospects look good, with some nice big Smooth Hound around and with the bigger Bass and Thornbacks not far behind!
