The Noodle Rig - created by Scott Lloyd - is one of the best hookers of carp out there. It is an aggressive bottom bait or wafter rig, incorporating a piece of shrink tube double the size of the hook, which allows it to turn and flip efficiently in the carp’s mouth. It is a must have in any angler’s rig board, and it is incredibly easy to tie. Watch, as we run you through how to tie the rig.
The unique shaped length of shrink tubing on this clever rig makes it very difficult for the carp to eject. Also the rig ensures a solid hook hold at the back of the bottom lip every time.
You will need the following components:
Thinking Anglers camskin 25lb
Thinking Anglers curve point hooks size 7
Thinking Anglers rig sleeves
Thinking Anglers medium shrink tube
Thinking anglers medium rig rings
Thinking Anglers rig putting
Thinking Anglers scissors
Step 1
Cut off roughly 18 inches of camskin hook length then strip back 4-5 inches of the outer coating. Tie a small loop to form the hair. Then tie a rig ring just below the loop.
The distance between the rig ring and the hair loop depends on your chosen bait size.
Step 2
Tie on your hook using the knotless knot with the rig ring mounted on the bend of the hook blow back style.
Step 3
Trim down a length of shrink tubing to 20mm. Strip back the coating of the braid a little more so that 25mm of the inner braid is exposed below the hook. Slide your shrink tubing over the eye of the hook.
Step 4
Slide on your rig sleeve then tie a small figure of eight loop at your chosen rig length. 7-8inches will suit most fishing situations.
Step 5
Steam your shrink tubing then using your thumb to create a slight curve at the end.
Step 6
Finally add a small amount of rig putty where the coating stops. The noodle rig is best fished with a wafter hook bait.
