AD Quickbite - How To Set Up A Pike Drifter Float

One of the most exciting and under used ways catching pike is to drift deadbaits under a float. This allows you to cover lots of water and depths, and you can search out areas you might not be able to access from the bank or boat with other styles of pike fishing.

The key to it is a rather unique-looking float made for the job. Despite looking rather complex, this set-up is actually quite straightforward to put together and fish with. Watch this Quickbite to see how to set it up correctly!

Here is the step by step Drifter float set up.

Step 1

You will need the following items.

Step 2

Thread a float stop followed by a stop bead onto your braided mainline. A strong floating braid of 50lb or more is best.

Step 3

Thread the drifter float onto your braid as shown.

Step 4

You now need to make an uptrace. Cut off around 2 foot of wire and crimp on a quick change swivel at one end.

Step 5

Slide one of the weights onto the uptrace and pull the quick change swivel into the rubber sleeve.

Step 6

Crimp a swivel onto the other end of the uptrace and tie it onto your braided mainline.

Step 7

Now clip on your wire trace and you're ready to fish.

Step 8

The finished rig, move the float stop up and down the braided mainline to choose the required depth.
